Even cats that spend most of their time indoors may be exposed to a number of potential hazards. The following list will help keep your home safe and sound for your cat.

Cleaning Agents — may only cause a mild stomach upset, while others could cause severe burns of the tongue, mouth, and stomach and may even be fatal.

Pets and Rodent Baits – often contain sweet-smelling ingredients that can attract your cat.

Prescriptions and Medications – human and pet medicines should be inaccessible to your cat. Also, put all flea products in a safe place when not in use.

Lawn and Garden Products – follow all instructions regarding insecticides, fertilizers, and herbicides very carefully and store these products out of your cat’s reach.

Automotive Products – oil, gasoline, and antifreeze as well as automotive cleaning products can be very dangerous to your cat. Store these items wisely and clean up any antifreeze leaks or spills immediately.

Sharp objects, children’s toys, yarn, or string can become lodged in the throat or, if ingested, can cause damage to the intestinal tract. Other common household objects, such as cigarettes, pennies, batteries, and fabric softener sheets can also be harmful to your cat.
